Fall foods was definitely on our minds as we went into our second ladies who dine sit down. Since more of the ladies could attend this meeting there was an abundance of food. We ate and conversed for hours as all proper ladies do. Also, some of the ladies dressed up for the dinner in their Halloween costumes to get the weekend festivities going, along with one cute pooch! See miss Amelia Earhart, Tina Turner, some lady from Glee(sorry!), and one feisty tiger. Oh yes and a pooch dressed as a ram.We started out with some wine, and munched on some home-made hummus with pita chips, while the appetizers and other courses warmed up.
Also, Lea served up some home-made ricotta on toasts with sliced strawberries and reduced balsamic vinegarette.
For our first course Miss Earhart made some delicious Cauliflower soup, adapted from smitten kitchen, which she spiced up with a drizzle of balsamic reduction.
Maureen made sweet potato bellinis with a black bean-salsa topping.
The hostess made stuffed butternut squash and a lot of it. Each bite tasted like the essence of fall!
Emilia made an apple crostata that especially made me and the Ling melt. We both have a thing for apple desserts, pies, tarts, crostatas, crisps. We love it all. Needless to say when the last slice was looking lonely on its pedestal, we looked across the table at one another and knew what we had to do. I think secretly we both hoped Emilia was hiding another crostata somewhere. Anywhere.
Sooooo delicious!
I believe Emilia used Ina Garten’s recipe, which is why it probably tasted soooo good. Aside from the fact that this Italian lady has some mad skills.
